Public Art for the new Witney College(27/11/2008)

< back

Artpoint has been commissioned by Abingdon and Witney College to manage the public art programme for the redevelopment of the Witney College campus, due for completion in autumn 2009.  This exciting new development will create a modern, innovative and sustainable learning environment for all young people and adults.

Artpoint has undertaken consultation with students, staff and key stakeholders and is currently finalising the artist’s brief for the programme. Four key sites across the new build have been identified as potential areas that would benefit from site specific artworks; these are the two main entrances to the campus, the courtyard and the large interior atrium space.

Public Art will be integrated across the college to help add character to the campus and stimulate discussion and debate. Artpoint will be managing the public art programme throughout 2009 and will be implementing Artpoint’s artist mentoring scheme to enable young and emerging artists to experience working on complex public art scheme in an education setting.

The brief for the scheme has been developed to be relatively open for creative interpretation from the shortlisted artists.
