'The Child and Me', a film written, directed and filmed by the pupils of Isambard Community School has been awarded the 'Best Documentary' prize at the prestigious national ‘First Light Awards 2008’.

The film project was part of the arts programme managed by Artpoint Trust spanning seven new PFI built schools in Swindon.

The First Light movie awards is a prestigious event held annually in London featuring various celebrities. This year First Light had an impressive profile of judges including Orlando Bloom, Kevin Spacey, Nira Park, Stephen Fry and Sam Mendes.

The pupils of Isambard Community School worked with 'Mobile Media' to create the film, for which Mobile Media secured funding from First Light, The Film Council’s Young People’s Film initiative, to work with some of the new intake of pupils on a documentary based short film about the anticipation and experience of starting in a brand new school.

The documentary follows the stories of 10 teenagers as they make the transition from primary to secondary school; from girls and boys to young women and men; from different backgrounds and homes, to fellow pupils forging the identity of a new community.

'The Child and Me' captures a unique moment in history for one group of people in Swindon
