Artpoint are working with Bath Royal United Hospital Arts Strategy Group to undertake consultation and apply for funding for a high quality public art scheme, to be located on the central reservation at the main entrance to the building. On May 1st a consultation event is being held in the main entrance Atrium at the RUH. During this event, staff, patients and visitors will have an opportunity to share their views on the kind of artwork they think would be appropriate for the RUH. It’s hoped that the new sculpture will be in place by 2009. Once the consultation findings have been collated and analysed, Artpoint will outline which type of approach will be most suitable for the site before identifying the appropriate scheme for funding and matching it to the appropriate funders/arts foundations. Beccy Waldman from Artpoint says: “A public art commission in this location will be seen by over half a million visitors to the hospital a year and will contribute to their expectations of what awaits them inside. It will help create a strong immediate impression, provide a clear focal point for the main entrance, and reinforce the values of the Trust.
Patients, visitors and staff are the users of the space, and their participation in the process of drawing up the vision for the scheme is therefore very important.”
