Bracknell Forest: The Parks Development(01/03/2008) |
In 2007 Taylor Wimpey contracted Artpoint to manage the public art programme for the development of a 730 unit housing scheme on the site of an old RAF training college in Public art is seen as an important component of the overall design strategy and is embedded in Wimpey’s overall approach. From the public art development plan developed by Artpoint, three areas for artistic involvement were identified including: a sculptural commission located at the heart of the development, an environmental commission that will embrace its surrounding natural situation, and a sculptural barrier commission which will prevent vehicle access to a 150m area of green land while enhancing the main entrance of the site. In addition to these elements, a community engagement programme involving new residents and local users of the site will be taking place as a sense of community is established across the development. Artpoint are working alongside Bracknell Forest Borough Council and Bracknell Public Art Advisory Panel in the selection of artists for all of the schemes. Artist Martin Heron has been selected for the sculptural barrier commission which is now entering fabrication and is hoped to be installed in May/ June. Artpoint are running a comprehensive artist mentoring programme alongside all commissions. |
