Public Art Commission, Yate Youth Café, Yate, Gloucestershire(26/06/2010) |
An artist or artists are invited to apply for the opportunity to be considered for commission for the public art for the Yate Youth Café. Total Budget: £ 66,700 South Gloucestershire Council and Yate Town Council wish to commission an artist or artists to develop artwork for the public art programme at the new Youth Café – Centre for Young People in Yate. The proposed Youth Café is a longstanding vision with wide support from the community and young people. The proposal is for a two storey landmark building that is designed by young people to meet their needs. Artists are invited to submit ideas for the design of public art for the exterior of the front elevation of the building. The artist needs to respond to: · the outside front wall(s) of the building (freestanding artworks will be considered but will need to be relevant to the project and create a value for money identity for the scheme). · the external lighting scheme · options to enhance the windows, eg: Transparencies or stained glass The artist is free to either respond to one or more of the above or develop an artistic approach which incorporates all elements. The artist’s research process for each site should look to engage with the qualities and use of the space and respond accordingly. It is of utmost importance that all proposals consider how best to engage and interact with all users of the youth centre and the wider community. Artists should consider how the work will interest, challenge and relate to both the main clientele of the building who will be 13-19 year olds and the wider community to form an appropriate gateway to the town centre. The artist will be required to deliver a minimum of two workshop or educational/consultation events to engage young people and the wider community. Artists must be prepared to mentor other artists should they be required. For a copy of the full brief, email info@artpointtrust.org.uk
