All 10 artists also feature in the publication Re Views: Artists and Public Space, and were selected to reflect a range of artistic practice and approaches to working in a public context. The portfolio has been produced in collaboration with the Slade School of Fine Art, University College London, utilising their state of the art Epson digital printer and supported by their technical expertise.
The aim of the print project has been to offer artists the opportunity to create new work in response to an open brief, and to experiment in a new medium, something that Artpoint encourages and supports in its project work. Several of the artists had never worked with print before and most had not worked with digital print, so the project gave them the chance to research and explore a new medium and equipment with expert technical support at hand. Another dimension to the project was to enable Slade students to engage with the artists and learn about their experience of working on the new prints as well as the experience of working in the public realm through a series of talks and discussions.
This project has been supported by a grant from Arts Council England, South East.
